We will practice the easiest, most consistent flatwater techniques, then we will go through alot of the things that make us miss rolls. Additionally, we will also work on alternative roll techniques for those looking to learn to hand roll and back deck roll.

About Mason Hargrove
Mason Hargrove has been paddling since 2014. He’s from Phenix City, AL and Columbus, GA. Kayak DC is proud to have Mason joining us for the 2024 season and bringing his experience and expertise to the DC community!
Mason’s favorite rivers that he’s run are the North Fork of the Payette, the Chattahoochee in Columbus, GA, Agua Azul, and Upper Gauley. Ask him about his favorite spots, though, and he’s likely to mention Boat Ramp Hole in Salida, CO and Donkey Kong, Ambush and Good Wave in Columbus, GA.
When asked about his best memories, Mason will tell you any time he gets to spend on the water with his family or friends. His favorite piece of gear is kayaks themselves. (“There are so many fun ones to play with!”) When he’s not paddling, he likes to play golf or mountain bike.
Mason’s advice to new paddlers is, “Don’t feel like you have to do the hardest things! Kayaking is meant to be fun so do what you think is fun!”

Glasses or Contact Wearers
If you wear eyeglasses or contact lenses, make sure to also be prepared with the following items:

FAQs
Safety Considerations
Because of the risk inherent in any whitewater or river activity, we want to make sure you are aware of these risks and acknowledge them prior to the clinics. We may be walking along slippery rocky shorelines, swimming in cold whitewater, and working in strong currents. All of this involves risk, and we will try our best to manage risk in a way that creates a balance between the risk students are exposed to and the levels of challenge presented during training.
We encourage you to chat or message us if you have any questions concerning safety. We are proud of our safety record and know that our instructors do not achieve this alone, it takes the help of our students.
What Others Are Saying
Reviews from others are the highest compliment that we can receive. Check out what others in the Washington, DC area have said about our kayaking lessons and adventures!
